How ClimaCost handles report and estimate information.

ClimaCost is designed to create a homeowner HVAC savings report. Estimate follow-up is optional and only happens after you give permission.

Information collected

Report inputs and estimate request details

Home and HVAC profile: ZIP, home size, home age, HVAC type, HVAC age, fuel type, thermostat behavior, comfort issues, repair history, and average bill.
Optional bill details pasted or uploaded as text/CSV. Original uploaded files are processed in memory and are not stored by default.
Estimate details only when submitted: name, email, optional phone, property type, own/rent status, timeline, project type, consent, SMS consent, notes, and status.

Use and sharing

Reports first, follow-up only with consent

ClimaCost uses report inputs to generate scores, weather-adjusted context, savings ranges, rebate guidance, and an HVAC opportunity score. If you request an estimate and check the follow-up consent box, your contact information and report summary may be shared with an HVAC professional so they can contact you. SMS consent is separate and applies only if you provide a phone number and opt into text messages.

Security and retention

Bill details are minimized

ClimaCost redacts account-like numbers from pasted bill text before storing report excerpts. API keys are never exposed client-side. Local development stores data in a local JSON directory unless a production database is configured.
